Mixed Media Day with Nathalie Kalbach

December 6, 2012

You might recognize this face?   This is the fun and gorgeous Nathalie Kalbach from N*Studio.  I was lucky enough to spend the whole day with her last Saturday at Everything Scrapbook & Stamps in Lake Worth, FL.  That is only about 45 minutes south, so I was so excited.

I took two of her workshops.  The first was her YAWP! Pan Pastel art journal class.   I learned a few new ways to play with my Pan Pastels!  Love my PanPastels, but I think I need some more colors.  They work so nicely with tools I already have; stamps, stencils, embossing powders, etc.   I didn’t bind my book, because I think I’m going to either add more pages, or add these to another art journal, as well as actually add more to the pages.

And the last class I took was a Season’s Mixed Media Canvas.   This is a work in progress.  I still didn’t add my title or my dimensional stamped images, because I have some other things in mind.  So, I got the foundation and plan to work on this one and add my own finishing touches to it, but the longer I look at it, the more I am loving it.  I will share it when I am finished, but I wish you could see all the texture in person.

Me and Nat being silly.   We had a blast.

The best part was spending some time with Nathalie.  When I meet my friends at CHA, we are usually all working and running around that we don’t have a lot of time to really sit around, talk, laugh, etc., so this was a real treat. I have to tell you that one of the main reasons I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job as a designer now is not just because I get to play in paints and glue everyday, but because of the people I get to meet in person and the friendships I am building all over the world.   For a little country girl raised in Florida (practically her whole life), this is the BEST part.   I can say that I have friends from Germany, Australia, Canada, England, Singapore, California (OK, so they are really still in the US  LOL ), Poland, Africa and so many more places.  Now, if I could just visit a few of them, I’d be checking things off my Bucket List.

Thanks for stopping by today,

I love it! I’ve been wanting to get into mixed media, but so far all I’ve been doing is looking at the amazing work of others. Goal #3 on my 2013 list of to do’s:-)

Just do it, Kisha. Start playing with some basic collage and grow from there. Lots of great inspiration out there.
