I am so pleased with how this came out. I have been playing more with my encaustic supplies and happy to have finally bought a simple griddle for my craft table. I’m using the griddle to melt the wax in small tins – or directly on griddle – so I can paint with it!
For this piece, I started with a small 6×6 Ampersand encausticbord. I applied PanPastels directly to the encausticbord over a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop. The PanPastel went on so smooth to the encausticbord. You can see a peek of my griddle heating up!
After I removed the stencil, I have a great background to work with. It’s awfully pretty by itself.
At this point, applied a clear layer of encaustic medium and then began painting my leaves with fan brushes using melted encaustic paint. I continued to add layers of colors to build up the texture. After I was done, I added another layer of clear medium and carefully applied the stencil once more. I added a more Violet Tint and Neutral Gray Shade to really make the colors pop under the leaves and bring the aspen branches back out. Final fuse with the heat gun and I’m calling it done!
This is going up for sale in my gallery! But you can buy now and I will carefully wrap and ship it to you Priority Mail. Will be ready for mounting on wall.
